Your journey into space history begins in the shadow of an actual flown SR-71 spyplane, a T-38 astronaut training jet, and a full-scale Space Shuttle replica. Our Hall of Space Museum features one of the most significant collections of U.S. and Russian space artifacts in the world, including the actual Apollo 13 command module and a flown Vostok spacecraft. The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center is truly like no other place on Earth!
SR-71, T-38, Shuttle
With a U.S. space artifact collection second only to the National Air and Space Museum and the largest collection of Russian space artifacts found outside of Moscow, the Cosmosphere's Hall of Space Museum is uniquely positioned to tell the story of the Space Race. By focusing on the human story of space exploration and punctuating that story with one of the finest collections of international space artifacts in the world, the Museum places space exploration in a broad historical context and presents the story of the Space Race in a way that no other museum in the world can.

German V-2 Rocket German Gallery:
In creating the ultimate weapons of war, Hitler's Germany laid the groundwork for future space travel. Rare V-1 and V-2 rockets highlight this World War II exhibit, demonstrating how V-2 technology made space exploration possible.
Glamorous Glennis Cold War Gallery:
Chronicling the first steps of both the U.S. and Soviet space programs, from the replica Bell X-1 Rocket Plane, Sonic Wind II Rocket Sled, and Redstone Atomic Warhead, to Russia's remarkable Sputniks I and II, this gallery brings to life the Cold War standoff between the superpowers and the early drama of the Space Race.
Vostok Voskhod Early Spaceflight Gallery:
Visitors come face-to-face with American heroes...and Soviet secrets. Climbing the gantry around the 109 foot Titan rocket, one hears the sound of rocket engines and actual launch day chatter from Mission Control. The comprehensive collection includes a flown Gemini X spacecraft, a flown unmanned Russian Vostok, and a full-scale engineering model of the manned Voskhod. The centerpiece of this gallery is the Liberty Bell 7 Mercury capsule.
Apollo 13 Apollo Gallery:
From Neil Armstrong's first steps on the Moon, to the ill-fated flight of Apollo 13, to Gene Cernan's last steps on the lunar surface, this gallery embodies the world's most amazing technological achievement- as well as its most gripping human dramas. Among the artifacts featured are the actual Apollo 13 command module Odyssey; flown Apollo spacesuits; a lunar module and replica lunar rover; a 1/10 scale model of the massive Saturn V rocket; an Apollo White Room; and a Moon rock from the Apollo 11 mission.
