A Hubble State of Mind

Mike McGlone of NASA will conduct a two day teacher workshop at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center. McGlone will discuss the impact and history of the Hubble Space Telescope, during this 20th anniversary week of Hubble’s deployment. McGlone is a K-12 education specialist, and we’re thrilled he’ll be bringing his expertise to Kansas teachers. |

Moon-O-Verse
October 6-7, 2010

Curriculum areas: Science, Social Sciences, & Math
This teacher workshop will focus on the 100+ moons of our solar system. Orbital mechanics and moon phases will be covered. Participants will make a solar system model and do a kinetic activity that traces the four chief theories of the origins of our moon. |

Space Food

Curriculum Areas: Mathematics, Language Arts and Social Sciences
The Space Food workshop takes a look at the challenges NASA has faced in feeding astronauts, and the changes over the years. Included in the program are the effects space has on blood, bone, digestion, and vitamin and nutrient absorption. Some of these well-known and lesser known items we see on grocery store shelves as a result of NASA’s research will be included in the workshop. |

Interested in the inner workings of NASA’s Johnson Space Center? Then travel with us to Houston for this exclusive up-close-and-personal tour. See areas not open to the public and speak to NASA scientists and engineers. Stand where flight controllers stood during the historic Moon landings and see cutting-edge spacesuits. Curriculum Areas: Science and Math
Science of the Seasons will illustrate the journey man took from living only by the sunrise and sunset, to understanding time. This realization dramatically affected almost every aspect of life from agriculture to movement. Included in the workshop will be information on constellations, mythology and astrology. |

Additional Information
Each workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Twelve
professional development points are included
with each workshop. Graduate credit is available
for all workshops at an additional fee.
Unless
otherwise noted, Kansas educators can attend
each program for $25*, thanks to the generosity of the Kansas
Space Grant Consortium, though limited
fellowships are available, so enroll early.
Tuition for out-of-state educators is $125 unless otherwise noted.
Payment is due one week prior to workshop.
