If the adventure of space travel excites your imagination, come spend an action-packed week at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center learning about the space program!

Our Program

2007 will mark year thirteen for our Elderhostel Astronaut Training Program for people 55 and older. The program, which is based on our nationally recognized Future Astronaut Training Program for middle school students that we've offered for nearly two decades, has been featured on CNN, NBC Nightly News, National Public Radio and in the New York Times.

In our week-long Elderhostel program, you will be briefed by our staff on subjects such as "Spaceflight: The Human Experience" and "America's Space Shuttle," build and launch rockets and tour our internationally acclaimed Hall of Space Museum.

The week culminates in a day and a half of training on our simulators. You can perform stress tests in the Centrifuge, a g-force trainer, and take a whirl on the multi-axis trainer. You'll also fly a T-38 Advanced Flight Simulator, direct a lunar rover mission much like the Mars Spirit and fly a space shuttle mission aboard our shuttle simulator, the Falcon III.

By the week's end, you'll be convinced you have the "right stuff!"

Program Fees

There are two pricing options for this program, depending on where you live. If you live close enough to commute, the registration fee is $300. For those of you who live out-of-town and need accommodations, the fee is $587, which includes a double occupancy room at a local motel. $650.00 for single occupancy. If you plan to stay in your RV, the fee is $415.

Both registration fees include meals and local transportation from the motel to the Cosmosphere.

REGISTRATION

Participants must register through the national Elderhostel office in Boston. In addition to the above fees, Elderhostel may apply an additional enrollment charge.
