KANSAS ADVENTURES IN OUTER SPACE

SPACE 101: Rockets and Living in Space
4-Day Residential Camp
For students entering grades 7 & 8
Location: Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center

Price: $499

  • Pilot our advanced Falcon III spacecraft simulator in a low Earth orbit mission
  • Take the helm of a real Soyuz capsule used to train astronauts worldwide
  • Oversee the Mission as spaceflight supervisor at Mission Control
  • Train like real astronauts on our 4-G centrifuge, multi-axis trainer and stress simulator
  • Adventure into the Hall of Space Museum, showcasing spacecraft that have traveled to the Moon and back!
  • Consult with the Cosmosphere’s rocketry educators in Dr. Goddard’s Lab, then build and launch your own hot rockets!

Each session is limited to 30 campers. Tuition includes room, board and everything else campers need to enjoy their week. Scholarships are available. The deadline to apply for scholarships is April 6, 2012. Transportation between Wichita Mid-Continent Airport and the Cosmosphere is available for a fee.

The Merits of Space Boy Scout Program**

Space 101: for Boy Scouts
5-Day Residential camp
For Scouts entering grades 6, 7 & 8

Earn 5 merit badges: Space Exporation, Engineering, Weather, Aviation and Astronomy

  • Train for the challenges of living and working in space using KAOS simulators: stress simulator, centrifuge, multi-axis trainer and Mission Control
  • Build and launch a model rocket
  • Enjoy an extended star observing session with state-of-the-art telescopes
  • Learn the lessons of history in the Hall of Space Museum - Housing an Apollo White Room; the lost spacecraft, Liberty Bell 7; the Apollo 13 command module, Odyssey; a flown Russian Vostok and many other U.S. and Russian space artifacts
  • Tie it all together as your team flies a low Earth orbit mission in the Falcon III spacecraft simulator
